Facilitating the backup restoration process

I would like the backup restoration process in Enhance to be much simpler. The idea is that if the server hosting the control panel and websites fails, it should be easy to restore from a backup on a new server.

Let me give an example of how this worked in the PLESK panel. When I wanted to switch to a different server, I would install a fresh PLESK instance on it, connect the backups from the old server (e.g., from Backblaze), and PLESK would automatically detect them. I would simply click on the latest backup, and it would restore all websites and control panel settings across the entire server! Thanks to this feature, I could migrate the panel and websites to a new server with just a few clicks.

Unfortunately, in Enhance, this process is currently lacking. I’m not sure how it will work in version 12.1, but judging by the roadmap, it won’t be as seamless as in PLESK. It looks like I will still need to manually transfer websites and configure the panel, whereas in PLESK, everything was done with a single click.

I hope you understand my point. PLESK is just an example-this isn’t about comparing which platform is better or worse, but about a specific feature.

Why would you think this? This is already possible on Enhance (using the Enhance backups). In fact, I'd say it's easier to restore an entire server than it is on Plesk (as you explained, I haven't used Plesk for a looooong time now).

Setup a test on Enhance and convince yourself then, you'll find it's very simple... provided you are using Enhance backups.

I'm a little confused.. you post around these forums as if you are the bearer of news (repeatedly reposting Release notes, for example and sharing information you say "Adam told me.. ") and then posting a thread like this claiming Enhance needs a feature that is already present. Do you know/use Enhance? I'm confused...

... and now you have others like @LuisMiguel liking this post and probably thinking if an "experienced" user like you (with many posts) is asking for a feature then it must not be possible yet.

Ok. Then explain to me how you would restore a server hosting the panel and websites (e.g., a VPS) when backups are created using S3 Object Storage? What you sent will work in the scenario you described, but it won’t work in my case 🙂 I will have to set up a new server manually and transfer the website backups manually using the feature that is supposed to be introduced in version 12.1:

Ability to download an archive backup of a website and import it to another cluster.

If you have a single server hosting both the panel and websites, the function you described above won’t work, especially for those using S3 Object Storage backups.

Why are you using S3 backups as your primary backups? Enhance backups are one of the main things that sets Enhance apart from other panels. I can't see a full server restore from S3 backups being a priority for Enhance, but if that is the feature you are requesting perhaps make that clear.

Why are you using a single server to host the panel and websites? Again, this isn't really how Enhance has been designed and neither is it good disaster recovery practise (yet you seem concerned with disaster recovery on the one hand) If you have a single server, perhaps use your VPS providers backup/snapshot feature. I don't understand why you are trying to do things so different to the recommended.. but anyway.

xyzulu I use S3 backups because, in my case, they are cheaper than buying a second server or local Block storage. I'm not a hosting provider but a person who creates websites and e-shops and maintains websites for a dozen or so clients. One server is fully sufficient in this case, and purchasing a second one would involve significantly higher costs. As I mentioned, I'm not a hosting provider and don't have hundreds of clients, just around 20-30. In total, all websites take up 120GB, which is also not an issue when using S3 backup.

DracoBlue perhaps you need to be charging your customers more so you can then offer a more seamless disaster recovery solution. Anyway.. your business, your call.

PS I suggest you clarify this feature request to something like: Allow the mass restoration (per server) of S3 backups

.. right now it's not clear what you are requesting.
