Is there a preferred way to configure the VPS for a backup role in v12? In particular - storage, I recall reading it required a block device for btrfs??

BTRFS is no longer required or used in v12, any filesystem should work. Let us know how the backup performs for you once you’ve set it up.

Is the backup a push from the app role or a pull from the backup role?

Aliysa_Enhance If both the app server and backup server were on a nat'ed private network is there a way to get them to talk across their private IP's? I tried putting the backup role name in the hosts file of the app role but backups still fail.
It's using the ipv4 address over ssh. I'm guessing the ssh part could start acting up with non-fixed things like a hosts file or hostname
davemcl Maybe you could do the "opposite"? Put the CP domain on the hosts file of the backup server, pointing to the CP's private IP?
