The only thing broken here is how you're exaggerating this for no reason. Relax, it was just a simple guide on how to tweak Enhance settings to "fix" a situation that some people want to avoid.

Even Enhance itself blocks users from modifying files during backups, as you probably know, yet you’re still missing the point of why some admins prefer not to run critical tasks while backups are happening.

Anyway, probably best to leave it here. No point in explaining what's already clear.

I can now confirm that v12.0.24 fixed the de-duplication issues seen with separate web and email servers. I won't share the command to run though, as it clearly says to only run it at the instruction of Enhance Support, but it does fix it.

Anyone having issues with excessive disk space use after updating to v12, with email and app/db roles separated, just drop an email to support and with the given command it's fixed in a few seconds.

In this case, it is on a separate block device with BTRFS, as per the default setup on v11 and before, confirming that no conversion to ext4 is required to continue to use the efficient backup system as it was before.

12.0.24 - New ecp CLI tool to synchronise http enabled status across all servers.

This was the magic fix for people waiting to upgrade due to possible overflowing disks on their backup servers.

So if we upgrade now it'll be applied automatically? we don't have separate app/db roles though..

It needed to be run manually here, but the de-duplication issue only seems to appear when the email role for a website is assigned on a different server than app/db. In my case, 1 server handling the email for all websites, and several servers with app/db roles.

So if the issue appears, running the ecp CLI tool will fix it.

It has been shared to contact support to get the go-ahead to run the command 😉 But judging by the threads mentioning people running out of backup space recently, it sounds like it might be better for the support team to just list it under the post-v12 fixes with a bit of instructions

cPFence Also, we’ve noticed that the latest version always keeps wip (work in progress) folders for some reason. Not sure if that’s the case for you as well, but we’re seeing this across all our clusters now.

I get the feeling that the leftover *wip folder/failed backup issues might have something to do with backup concurrency. Maybe better to set backup concurrency to a higher number.

We no longer see those on our backup servers. We keep track of them using:

find /backups -maxdepth 2 -type d -name "wip*" -exec du -sh {} \; -exec stat --format="%y %n" {} \;

They’ve all been sitting at 16KB for the past 9 days, so no complaints here. Haven’t had time to dig deeper, but if it’s not broken, no need to fix it.

Noob question, I have done an 'rm -rf' of my backup data, yet the disk space stays the same. Anyone have any ideas?

Also, why does the backup server increase in size so fast now?

Still using BTRFS? If so, you really shouldn’t be, BTRFS worked well for v11, but it’s not ideal for v12’s backup system. I’d highly recommend switching to EXT4. This guide can help walk you through it:

I have a strange problem. I have a new client with a dedicated server. And I don't know why yet but automatic backups are not created every 6 hours as they should... The sites are quite large, even 30GB, but I guess that doesn't matter. There are many free resources.

We had the same issue on a website around 50 gb including emails, it seems that the mail backup and the website backup where running on the same time (mail server is external), and that was causing the file backup to fail.

I am not sure about the reason about the failure but adam checked it and he just removed the .last_backup file , the backups since then run on different times, so it works.

I think there is a bug with this, to be honest because when you do manual backup the backups run at the same time and they dont fail

I just checked and the backup is failing again so this is only a temporary solution there is another underlying issue

Backups are created but not always equally every 6h as I have set, manual ones work.
