Ah okay, I haven't seen this one yet. Tried to check it out but no information on what and how they do it and how much you can customize it. Around the WP Drama recently, I would suggest that this is in collaboration with another tool.

@Kosta it's WordPress.com , not WordPress.org. It's part of their hosting, you cannot use it elsewhere. I've tried it, not impressed.

I know there is https://zipwp.com/. It does a good job at making a standard site.

zipwp uses the Astra theme and their block plugin, and it's very laggy on the backend. At least, that was the case last time I tested. The WordPress.com solution uses native WordPress blocks, so it's lighter.

Andrei Interesting, I never had any lag issues with it. It always ran well for me.

I prefer to use Livecanvas.com for a page builder.

Thats because web design is an art. They ALL look the same. Whats worse is the code quality is questionable which makes customization tricky. Outside of wordpress most AI tools ONLY generate react code. Why? Because that framework BY FAR has the most repos it can steal code from (good and bad quality) and the most modules it can install (good and bad).

I've seen a lot of AI tools fail to make basic designs mobile responsive unless you give it specific prompts (which most people won't know to do). Whats worse is there is no consistancy across pages. Mobile might look good on homepage and the contact form will require scrolling right and left.

If you just want your basic format like the below any idiot (or AI) can do that.

That said, eventually AI tools will generate cookie cutter sites very very well. I feel bad for future junior developers because AI will completely replace them. How do you get the skills needed to do things AI cant if no one hires you instead of using an AI tool cheaper?

Until then I just AI for monkey work like "here is the layout for section. Here is content put things in the obvious places" so I don't have to copy/paste 10 things.

JohnB I was doing some fun stuff today with gpt and basic web design. So me and a buddy are resurrecting an old text based strategy game we used to play 25 years ago. I was grabbing the content off archive.org and rebuilding it into better optimized html files, this is just the basic frontend site for things like game guide and hall of fame, etc., has like 50 html pages... Gpt was such a frickin letdown. It could handle basic text, but any html tables would just totally shit it up, I was shocked how it couldn't handle such basic html - just taking the text content off the old pages and converting it into my head/foot html template.

So I had to do it like 75% by hand. Annoying.

I started thinking of how I would be adding more mobile-first features tomorrow and just SMDH about updating 50 html files just to add a mobile menu or add google analytics, lol... Probably just gonna stick all this crap on WordPress, much easier to modernize and manage so much content.

Maybe 5 more years and AI will be able to handle more basic web design stuff, imo.

twest yeah it can't handle tables very well. It also likes to change other code silently. one time it removed the isadmin check from a different function than I told it to edit.... You have to babysit it so much... Much like a new junior dev or intern.

Check out astro if you don't want WordPress bloat just to easily edit sections across the whole site. Great framework and very easy to learn. It can be normal html + a few "front matter" lines for component imports like header, footer, sidebar. Use those components on all pages and change in one place.

It generates very optimized html pages. Can auto generate webp and optimized image sizes too.

Good documentation too.
