How to deal with outdated software: wait for updates or update manually?

Hi everyone,
I couldn’t find a clear answer in the community, so I’d like to ask:

Is it okay to manually update LiteSpeed, PowerDNS, etc.., or is it recommended to wait for official updates?

In general, what’s the best approach to outdated software components — should we proactively update them ourselves, or wait for official updates from the panel/vendor?

I’d really appreciate your advice and any best practices you can share.

Hopefully we can do this soon via Enhance panel.

It’s not recommended to upgrade PowerDNS, Postfix, etc. Best to stick with the stable versions provided by Ubuntu. Feel free to upgrade LiteSpeed, Rspamd (we have a guide for that), and Roundcube. For everything else, it’s generally better to stay with the Ubuntu-provided apt versions.

You can update anything as long as this updates doesn’t change the usual configuration files or directories.
You can use official repository from pdns or other apps you install to be really up to date with latest features of this software’s.
Make sure before update your system have a backup to be able to restore in case some update breaks the system.
As usual after any update, observe your system’s for unusual behaviour.

@Kosta have you updated these packages manually yourself? (since you are recommending others do this) If not, you probably shouldn't be so quick to encourage others.
