Seeing if IOFlood can build me a dedi with their 14 TB drive on 10 Gbps. Seems like I might need to take a custom dedi route here. Anybody using a dedi with 10 TB or more storage?

Assuming with Enhance the storage needs to be a single drive so none of the (6x 2 TB drive stuff). Need a big whoppin' SATA.

Or is not such a bad idea to have my web/db and storage server with the same company (InterServer) in different DC's)? Would be backing up the backups anyway, maybe to IOFlood.

In our experience, using several storage VPSs tends to give better overall performance than a single dedi with a huge SATA drive. But your mileage may vary, always test to see what works best for your setup.

Can't go wrong with IOFLOOD.

I wouldn't put backups on the same provider that you use for web/db. Provider failures/account suspension (accidental or otherwise) happen. This actually happens and you can find cases, it doesn't only happen to people breaking TOS.

cPFence That would be nice to avoid many servers pounding a single backup server. I don't see any information about how using multiple servers with the Backup role works.

SharedGrid mentioned "I think it would require some management from your side ensuring your websites are balanced across the different backup servers." I suppose the accounts would not be distributed evenly, automatically?

Fill the first backup server up then deploy a second and make that default for new sites? Repeat.

No, it’s ridiculously easy with Enhance. Just go to the Websites page, select a few sites, click "Move Server," choose your backup server, and hit Next. Works best when you're just getting started, avoid this if you already have large backups in place to prevent transfer issues.

Looks like AlphaVPS has 1 Gbps port. Maybe they used to offer 10 Gbps?

cPFence I can confirm, I did it that way as well and it worked perfectly. The process is simple and quick with Enhance, no complications.

prasad0889 My experience has been different. I have two backup servers from AlphaVPS, both in London, and failures are very rare. In my case, the service has been stable.

Do not try alpha vps. Their storage vps are shit. Backups keep failing every time.

Bulgaria DC? That one is poor. We’ve been using their Germany and USA DCs for years without a single issue.

webdig cPFence We had one in London and two in US, both were so bad that it wasn't possible to work with them. Backups failed daily. Transferring in and out the data took hours, for just a few hundred GB, and we moved away from them within a few days.

I tried a 1TB storage box with Alpha in one of their German datacenters. Support were quick to reply and I'm sure their more performant line of VPS are better, but the box I was on had high latency and were not up to the task. Support said it was meant for cold storage and that is fine for the price I paid, but it was not up to the standards I require a backup storage to be. I threw in the towel and migrated to another provider and it took me 6+ hours to transfer about 80 GB of data.

Not sure this is the right pick when (any) speed is of the essence.

I think a dedicated server is your best bet if speed and large storage should be an option.

prasad0889 I understand your experience was different, but in my case, it’s been the opposite.
I have two AlphaVPS backup servers in London, and backup failures are very rare. Transfer speeds have also been good for me, even with larger datasets.

I’ve also had a dedicated server at Hetzner just for backups, and it was problem after problem, with constant failures — so I know how frustrating this type of situation can be.

Which provider are you currently using for your backups?
