To be honest, I was also surprised when people started saying that WHMCS was going to “double” the monthly fee. After checking carefully, the real increase is $5, $10 or $15, depending on the client tier. It’s still a steep increase, no doubt about that, but it’s not actually double as some posts suggested.
The truth is that over the last 6–7 years, almost every platform in our industry has been raising prices: WHMCS, cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin… it really feels like a general trend rather than an isolated case.
As for alternatives, I’ve tried pretty much all of them.
I’ve been using WiseCP ever since I started using Enhance, almost a year ago, and I genuinely wanted it to be the long-term solution. But in practice, I’ve had more issues than I expected — small bugs, little limitations here and there, and some details that add up over time and make daily operations less smooth.
I also looked into Upmind and Blesta. Upmind is still too early for a full hosting setup, and Blesta, although stable, doesn’t really fit what I need (especially the way translations work).
So honestly, I ended up going back to WHMCS — this time using the Croster theme from ThemeMetro, which improves the overall experience quite a bit.
And even though I’m not happy about these constant price hikes, WHMCS still has the most complete ecosystem and gives me fewer headaches in the long run.
For anyone trying to reduce costs, there’s always the option of buying the license through cplicense, which can sometimes be a bit more affordable — nothing dramatic, but it helps.
By the way, if you’re leaning towards Blesta, BlestaClub is active here in the community, and they might be able to help you with some of the things you’re looking for.
In short: I’m not sticking with WHMCS because I love the platform, but because right now it’s still the most stable choice for real hosting environments where automation must work reliably. If something truly solid appears in the future, I’m open to moving — but for now, this is what works.
