I am very interested in this as well. I found a way but it may be tough for clients who are not technical. And I got a few of them.

But a WP plugin where you just got to enter some login info and it's all done. That would be amazing.

I'm looking to move one of my other brands over to enhance. The way I do it now, is not bad for a few sites. but on a large scale, it would take a long time. But a plugin to do all the work would be great.

But im always looking for easier and quicker ways

ss88us This seems like a lot just to transfer, no? AIOWP is literally click to export, click to import and everything needed is done (including URL change if detected)...Am I missing some benefit of Duplicator Pro? (tried it once but it seemed like a lot more work so I gave up)

briansmith84 Nah, it's just the standard vanilla way. Some companies do not want their data touching anything third party.

Backup plugins... different folks, different strokes.

Having just gone through migrating many sites from old servers to new servers (with Enhance) I'm going to share some thoughts to those like me who were looking for options. I'll point out that I don't like having to download and then upload massive site backup files (for one site I just migrated, it was around 4.4 GB, which on a 4G rural Internet connection is a lot of time and data). I prefer being able to simply copy the migration/backup file from old server to new server directly (wget usually does the trick).

Duplicator: works well, even with free version. Can run into issues on very large sites. No issue with manually copying the export file to new server directly. Need pro version for cloud transfer, etc. Doesn't require Wordpress to be install on new server (it will completely wipe over it)
WPVivid: Seems to be my new favourite for plug-in based migration. Before that I Duplicator was my plugin of choice. I discovered it via this discussion (thanks guys). No issue with manual server-to-server file transfer. They take that a step further, allowing for direct server-to-server migration of the site. All cloud storage options are included in free version (Google Drive, Dropbox, AWS S3, etc.). Also FTP/SFTP is available. Needs WP (with WPVivid plugin installed) on new server.
All-in-one WP (aka. "AIOWP" in this discussion): Excellent plug-in, but it appears you pretty much need the Pro version as it's rather limited on free version. Can't manually copy file from one server to another. So on big sites, that means downloading a potentially massive file locally, and then uploading it to new server. Cloud services require paid version. I'm not willing to pay a monthly/yearly subscription a migration plug-in. If I was a full time site-migration consultant, sure. But not in my case.
Manual method, as detailed here ss88us : Works well. Used this for the 4.4 GB site I just migrated. Easy enough to do. However, Duplicator or WP Vivid will likely be more convenient for those less savvy with the linux command line (I expect most Enhance users will have no issues hanging out on the command line).

inspiredearth WPVidid is great I've used it a lot. Especially when I had slower internet.

Updraft can be great too if you use google drive (free) as the middle point. No transfer over your internet. Or if you have the access just SSH into source and transfer updraft folder to dest server. Then go into dest and click rescan backup directory. Click restore.

In my experience Updraft can handle more hosts (even really shitty ones) better than WPVivid.

Yes that method is useful for testing the website with it's own URL on a new server before changing the live IP over

The migration process itself has been well documented already in this thread inspiredearth but if you are looking for more ways to test a website on a new server before switching the IP over then you can also use an Alias and then hard code the alias in the wp-config.php file with these 2 lines:

define('WP_HOME','https://www.domain.co.uk/');
define('WP_SITEURL','https://www.domain.co.uk/');

Where www.domain.co.uk has been added as an Alias against your website in Enhance.
Don't forget to remove the lines before you go live though!

inspiredearth A +1 from me for WPVivid. I moved ₁₀₀ sites from a custom cluster to another environment, then later out of that environment to a new Enhance cluster when I first discovered Enhance, all with the free version and only a couple of simple niggles to fix on the odd site. I’d use it next time I need to move something from A to B as well as it was just so easy to use.

I used it with SFTP as the backend method because I was moving sites to an internal area first to test them. Great solution that doesn’t cost anything and no one else gets to touch your data.

When we need to migrate just the WordPress site we usually use Akeeba Backup.
It handles everything (also paths etc).

gozen I concur with trying Akeeba Backup for one-off or smaller migrations.

We have used Nic's products for years with our Joomla hosting. There were some serious hiccups with the early versions for WP, but they quickly settled out.

When we started our migrations from Plesk to Enhance late 2023, we started with Akeeba, but actually found WP Vivid to be a bit faster. So, we utilized Akeeba for Joomla sites, and WPvivid for WP sites, until Enhance released their Plesk import tool.

I have a question, when I migrate WordPress from server to server, so it's about changing the IP address for the same domain, how is this handled?

mastershammer Just for clarity do you mean server to server within the same Enhance cluster or do you mean migrating a website "into" Enhance?

MarkD Well, it doesn't really matter - within Enhance there's a tool for moving domains to different servers, but when I want to migrate from another hosting to Enhance servers, I know it's possible by modifying /etc/hosts and adding a new IP address, but I'm wondering if there are other ways when migrating WordPress from CyberPanel or my own hosting to Enhance.
