WebInfra If this is introduced, it should be disabled by default with the ability for Master users to enable it.

If we implement this feature then it will definitely be something the master organisation can turn on/off. Since the backups are differential/incremental, if the customer stores a copy of their site from 12 months ago we have to store the difference between the website then and the website now which is likely to consume a lot of backup storage compared to storing only the last 30 days of changes.

Adam Oh then for me this feature doesn't make sense anymore so I retract my vote 😉
The Pin feature will be "replaced" by the ability to self-download a backup with a very easy way to import it back into Enhance as AdamM suggested in another post about migration, if I recall correctly.

Would be good if we could have a button that says / does "Extend Backup Lifetime by 24 Hours" and you can do this three times before the backup is deleted, and the backup expires after a month etc.

Zoinkies So some usual client made some wp site, made a backup and it should be deleted anyway? Some time he got a message that something is broken, he go into the hosting and found that his site was hacked 5 months ago and what he will do then? Usual customer don't think about his site daily and even monthly, really. Of course he should update, backup manage frequently and so on but instead of explaining every user what he should do much better to provide him a possibility to have safe backup on your server

gosha Keeping backups for 5 months is usually excessive for most. You may want to increase your backup retention period if you cater to such use case.

WebInfra Why you think so? Usual small company, usual client has ordered some simple site for 500 eur and will not change anything there for a 3+ years, they also will not update modules, themes and only WP maybe will be configured for automatic updates. Site will be hacked after 1.5 years of not updated work but the client itself will find it a year later. And this is why they will need the backup that was done at the start or after last contact info change.

gosha If you sell them a care plan, you'll be responsible in keeping the site up to date and clean up the site if it got hacked.

If you're not selling them a care plan, it's their responsibility to maintain the website and also keep adequate backups.

If nobody intends to maintain the website, it may be a better idea to turn it static with something like WP2Static so it'll doesn't need to be constantly maintained and almost unhackable.

Have you already deployed WP static sites on Enhance?

Adrien It'll turn your WP site into a static HTML so it can work anywhere, including in Enhance.

The only issue with turning it static is deprechated and/or CVE containing JS imports. You still have to maintain the website. Although removal of SQL overhead and attack surface is welcomed.

you can host thousands websites on a very basic server 🙂

The ability to lock a selected backup would be really useful, and a number of backup solutions for software like WordPress includes this, i.e. WPVivid.

I can see the potentially much bigger backup file sizes issue that @Adam raised, but still it would be a really handy feature to have if it could be implemented.
