Suggestion for Backup server

badboybackagain I haven't had any issues with oracle cloud yet. Although their support is not very helpful. In with a support ticket almost 15 days now.

I can't find the info in Hetzner's site. But if you have a VM add a new volume it starts in 10Gb for 0.44 EUR/month. So 200Gb would be 8.80 EUR a month.

We currently use Plesk on Hetzner servers for our hosting and Hetzner Storage Boxes for storing the backups.

Has been working fine for us for years now, connection from our Hetzner cloud servers to the storage boxes is also pretty fast, we see about 600mbps of network transfer speeds when we are running backups. Cheap too.

So maybe a cheap Hetzner Cloud server with a storage box connected to it?

I believe the current backup solution requires a storage block to be added to the VM. I don't know if this would work with a Hetzner's storage box.

But with S3 support coming in the future there will be more options. Recently someone suggested Backblaze, they have s3 compatibility.

The storage boxes support FTP/SFTP etc. But also SMB/CIFS, so you could just mount it on the local filesystem. So you could mount it to /mnt/storagebox for example.

Unfortunately you won't be able to use this for Enhance. To enable the incremental snapshot backups you need to provide a raw block device which Enhance can format with btrfs. Either a dedicated server with a large hard disk or a VM with some attached iSCSI storage would be perfect.

We bought a auction server from hetzner, with 10TB HDD and pay like 0€ a month with 500 website and 30 days retention we use approx 1.5TB in storage.

Adam This is an older thread but just now came across it via Google... Is this still the case with v12 not requiring btrfs? I am looking to use Hetzner Storage Box just for the Backup role.

BTRFS is no longer required in v12, you can now add the backup role to any of your servers.
