Smart Routing per email address or domain

It would be very useful if we could set smart routing (external smtp) per domain or for a specific email address.

Are you referring to a per-domain smart host rather than per server? Do you want the customer to be able to set this or admin only?

Hi yes, it would be nice if it is per domain rather than overall. While with WordPress we can easily install a plugin to achieve this but with custom applications this feature would be amazing.

Is this mainly for PHP mail()?

For me this is mainly PHP mail () across many applications. While WordPress solves it well, other PHP applications don't really have much options and not all developers expect this to be managed by the host.

It sounds like maybe what you guys might need is the ability to override the SMTP settings for PHP mail()? Internally we have RPCs for this already so it might be quite an easy feature to implement.

Do you want the end user to be able to set this?

Yes end user should be able to set this for example one user may want use Amazon SES, and one user may want to set mailgun and so on.

If it is at the user account level it would be nice for example all the websites under the user will use the said service or if user level is not feasible, it can be at the website level where they can use smtp override per website.

It would be great if the customers could change this.

If possible, not just for php mail but also for email clients. I know that the smtp server is set in the email client, but is there a way of using the mail.domain and email address login details for the smtp server in the client and then routing it through whichever external provider is set?

Again I have run into a situation where this feature would have been useful.

It would really be great to be able to enable a smart host per package (from the provider side) or per domain (from the client side).

The ability to send via a smart host already exists, it would just mean extending it to be more specific than just by the server.

Sorry to also revive an old post, but I second this... unfortunately I've had to resort to running a separate mail server away from Enhance for specific clients that require smart host/routing. The ability to smarthost specific domains/customers from within Enhance would be a huge addition.

VineHost Could you spin up a small VPS, make it just a mail server, and add only that client(s)?
Then setup the smarthost on that one mailserver?

Andreas this would involve spinning up around 50 VPSs for each customer to tailor their requirements
