This is based on my other post which I cannot edit now to suit this properly.
A lot of control panels (such as WP Toolkit for cPanel/Plesk) have the ability to create "starter packs". Personally, I don't like installing anything until necessary, but it could be useful for people to have a pre-defined list of stuff to install.
How it would work
This feature would work similarly to the "WordPress + WooCommerce" application right now, but it would allow server admins to create custom packs. So - instead of WooCommerce, maybe the hosting provider could pack WordPress + BuddyPress (or something - just an example).
The host could define for each custom package:
- Plugins
- Themes
- MU Plugins
- Drop-ins
These could be pulled from the WordPress Plugin Repository, local files, or custom URLs.
Use cases
- Agencies who have a "template" of themes or plugins they use on every site
- Hosting providers with custom integrations (such as SSO, CDN, or caching)
- Hosting providers who would like to use drop-ins for things such as custom database error pages (I have one that gives the client information on how to contact support)
- Hosting providers that want to sell these templates as a "bundle"
What do you guys think? Would this help your hosting services? How so?
