OLS reload for htaccess changes

I'd like to test the openlitespeed web server (currently using apache), but I believe it needs to be manually reloaded when changes to htaccess and other configurations are made.

Is there a workaround in Enhance for this situation? I believe other panels have certain ways to auto reload on htaccess changes, for example: https://docs.directadmin.com/webservices/openlitespeed/general.html#how-to-make-ols-automatically-reload-after-htaccess-changes

I'd like to make this into a feature request if there's no currently a workaround.

This is something we could automatically do in the future.

In the meantime the cron job workaround proposed by DirectAdmin could work on Enhance with a little modification. The differences being that the path to your websites would be /var/www/*/public_html and the command to restart openlitespeed would be:

docker exec -it openlitespeed /usr/local/lsws/bin/lswsctrl restart

Also you won't have access to the cgid binary they're using to detect the start time as that's within the openlitespeed container. You would have to use mmin and pick a time which is slightly less frequent than your cron job.

I don't want to be wrong, but I don't think so because I just checked the official RoadMap of the development of the Enhance Control Panel and therefore the automatic reloading function of the .htacces for the OpenLiteSpeed WebServer has been planned for the month of January 2024 and I quote verbatim:

"January 2024
.......
Automatic .htaccess reload for OpenLiteSpeed".

I would suggest you do this at most once an hour so the cron job would look like

0 * * * * docker exec openlitespeed /usr/local/lsws/bin/lswsctrl restart

To make the cron job silent regardless of the output from OLS you might want to do

0 * * * * docker exec openlitespeed /usr/local/lsws/bin/lswsctrl restart > /dev/null 2>&1

How about finding the change in .htaccess and then doing it. If no file is changed in last one hour, dont restart.

You could probably engineer this yourself with a script in your language of choice which checks modification times. In future it might be a feature of Enhance.

Maybe the scripts like this, using cron for 5 minutes

FabioP wow that's great news OLS is getting back into the dev queue! I really want to use it, but I can't even think about it until there's a persistent config. I can't make any $ on OLS servers until I can get the config optimized for large dedicated servers, the default config won't get me anywhere :/

But I absolutely love LS PHP, that alone makes such a big difference in server density and efficiency. I'm also not willing to dump $92/mo in a paid license per server lol

The feature is built, it's just undergoing testing before release. The cron solution is a lot slower and less efficient but it will work in the interim.

FabioP ya, I've got to say the development and responsiveness with the enhance team is great! There are a few things that definitely need fixed or expanded on but so far the panel is amazing!

Yes, I too am very happy with Enhance and I am in love with it and after years of using CPanel I switched to Plesk (which I think is better than CPanel) but now that I have discovered the Enhance Control Panel I can't wait to move everything from Plesk to Enhance.

Yes, it is very true that the Development Team and the Enhance Administrators are truly exceptional and reactive and in my opinion, with the right time, Enhance has all the potential to outclass any Control Panel including the much celebrated and very expensive CPanel and Plesk which are no longer they innovate more and live on income.
