Enhance Packages

Hello Everyone,

We are planning to launch new packages, where we want to skip the addon domains and only allow websites/containers with a few sub-domains for staging, etc. on each package.

Our packages are such,
Package 1 - 1 website, 5 subdomains, 5 GB Storage, 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, etc.
Package 2 - 2 websites, 10 subdomains, 10 GB Storage, 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, etc.
Package 3 - 5 websites, 25 subdomains, 20 GB Storage, 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, etc.
Package 4 - 15 websites, 75 subdomains, 35 GB Storage, 6 vCPU, 12 GB RAM, etc.

Now lets consider Package 4, and when we are configuring Enhance packages,
Number of Websites: 15
Number of Staging Websites: 15
Disk Space Allowance: 35 GB
Page Views: Unlimited
Bandwidth: Unlimited
MySQL Databases: 30 (considering 2 for each website, 1 prod, 1 staging)
FTP Accounts: Unlimited

Now when we move to the system resources section,
Memory Limit: 12 GB (for a single website)
Virtual CPU's: 6 (for single website)
.
.
.
Hard Disk: 35 GB (again hard limit per website)

Here are the actual questions,

How do I limit the memory and CPU per plan and not per website?
How to apply hard limit of space on entire account (will the one "Disk Space Allowance" work)?

PradeepC i believe u cannot. the system resource limits are per website.

considering your packages u would need to enable addon domains.

package 4:
1 website = 6vcpu 12gb ram
14 addon domains
and whatever other limits.

the importance of addon domains in a website is not clearly visible in the UI for clients. they would get confused.

I think Adam was clear on this in some other posts,

Addon domains were never supposed to be a thing. Instead, each domain should have its own Account (website). This is why no effort was put into the matter.

In my personal opinion, I agree with them to some extent, as each domain should be isolated and have its own settings, restrictions, security etc. This would make the flow of using the panel consistent and clear.

Enhance's path taken is like -> It is very affordable to add another account (for now). Just sell your hosting for less for each domain instead of selling a monster package and allowing 50 add-on domains.

It is not a bad approach 🙂

When reseller accounts are available, you can make each package a reseller account, and they can create x number of websites, each with its own resources. (this is the closest outcome I can see for your needs)

regarding hard storage, you should be careful if allowing emails as emails do not amount to the total storage of the account (for now), as enhance does not calculate yet properly storage usage. (will be in the future)

Also, I had read somewhere that if the email quota is set to dynamic it is calculated in the package/subscription. @Adam Could you please help clarify?

My bad, as I do not offer reselling. Instead, we mostly host business clients, but it seems reselling is available when creating a package, so you are ready to go with your plan using those options, if suitable.

I might be wrong, and if I am, I can be corrected by someone who tested this better and documented it.

I can tell you for sure that I have Accounts that display 250M of data (when displayed in the list of all accounts). Then if you click on them and see a detailed package view, it displays 2.9G (I guess this includes emails). The UI is not pulling data or displaying data in a reliable way at this point in time, but an update to come soon to fix this (in April)

Also, I am unsure if an account goes over the storage allocated or if any penalty can be applied, like blocking users from adding more data or stopping email service receiving (writing emails on the server).

I am not aware of any setting and flow to be applied in case a client excused storage allocated, so I am almost sure at this point in time we have to monitor and ask clients to upgrade nicely or somehow stop their services to force them to upgrade, this is not very efficient and personally am still waiting for a fix on the matter.

i think a notification would do the trick. when a user gets over your package allowance you/him will get notified(email+panel). then you should be able to offer him to upgrade or delete stuff.

stopping or suspending a user over quota is a bit harsh i think.

i totally agree with you regarding the monster packages. i do not know how its even affordable to do so. i meant the domains sections is important for multitude of things. addon, sub, alias, dns etc.. i also believe the flow is not that friendly. u create a sub domain then u need to have an app installed u go to apps. if you go to apps and you have not created a domain for that. its somehow confusing for users. maybe i am wrong 🤷‍♂️

Its not if the users actually reach the high limits, but most won't. Personally, if a custom just wants 5 domains to all point to the same website that's fine. However, if they have 3 websites they should expect to pay hosting plan * 3. If you have a micro plan for basically landing page sites, this is reasonable.

Anyone who complains about that can go enjoy a "unlimited" plan with godaddy.

JohnB i also cannot understand how ppl are even hosting 10$ packages even with one website. The math just doesn’t add up. U have taxes, salaries, rent, electricity, server costs, licenses etc..

With 1000 clients unless u r a one man show it won’t be feasible. But on the other side can a one man show manage 1000 clients.🫨

I am really trying to figure how do ppl do it. Maybe i am dumb no idea.

mike The trick a lot of cheap hosts use is bad quality and useless support lol. You oversell the CPU and memory by a big factor becase most people won't actually use all their alloted resources at the same time. Use old CPU's so servers are super cheap. DDR3 memory is modern right? Like a slumlord who has a 100amps of power coming in and 20 apartments. Pray your tenants don't all run AC at the same time lol.

95% uptime is really good right? TOS says if IP responds to ping no credit!

Oh and backups? That sounds like a customer problem not a hosting problem. If data is lost...data is lost.

There is always a line, and people sit on both sides of it.

I prefer to be the provider offering everything, and everyone is happy. etc., but the reality is a bit different.

Some prefer to remove email functionality altogether from the panel; some prefer to provide a full service with a professional service and a complete set of features.

Some prefer to do 100 Backups and put the right price on the package, as no one can give free storage and services. Others prefer (including clients) not to do backups, or (clients prefer to do their own backups) as long as the price is cheaper. (maybe they have an HTML website built in Notepad, and there is not much with backing up.)

I would not blame anyone for their choices, as every hosting company offers tailored services for a category of clients.

If you want to give 100 days of backups.. do so, but do not bash the neighbour for creating a package suitable for other clients.

You get what you pay for. (and that is OK) The only issue is when you pay for something and get cheated. You are promised your package does this and that, and later on, you realise that only 30% of what you were sold works.

unlimited bandwidth
unlimited storage
for 5$

you could also bargain for once per week grocery delivery

mike I remember when the unlimited plans all hit the market. It was difficult to not jump on the bandwagon, but we actually resisted it. We did lose customer base. Now that many of those plans are dead, we actually find our pricing model fitting nicely into the managed hosting arena.

Unlimited plans were never sustainable and was a gimmick at best.

This is why it is essential to be able to count all data and be able to impose limitations on services once the quota is reached.

This should be a priority, in my opinion, but it seems there is no rush to fix this. Instead, it is treated like we all sell unlimited plans, and storage does not matter.
