The free version is sufficient for most. You get a good amount of protection by adding extra security to wp-login via Page Rules, blocking access to risky countries like Russia/Ukraine/Romania/China. The CDN aspect saves about 90TB of bandwidth per month for us too.

JohnBee I don't think you can install mailcow on enhance, doesn't mailcow require its own dedicated server/VPS? I think so... But yeah if you setup a mailcow server you could probably use its SMTP or relay services in enhance and sites hosted on enhance.

That'd prolly be a good idea to have a separate dedicated system for email service too, that's how I've always done it, kept hosting and email as separate services. I currently use a dedicated cpanel email node for "free custom domain email" for customers. I like that it's a separate service and contained on one server, because managing email service is a huge pain in the arse. Constantly battling keeping your IP clean and off blacklists, and then dealing with customers trying to set it up is a huge time sink. At least the email being in one place makes management a little easier.

Yes, that's precisely what I was thinking of.

As I currently run a mailserver, I would definitely consider integrating that into my setup also.
Though I was hoping that Enhance might lead to added monitoring simplification insofar as the mail server was concerned.

This leading to ask about other servers, such-as an AMP Minecraft game server for example - could this be integrated into the panel as a server also?

I'm just pitching ideas around - to get a better feel for the intents of the panel etc.

No, that won't work.

JohnBee Nah that wouldn't make sense, game servers require their own environment to run their software, plus their own ports/security requirements. For stuff like that what you'd want to look into a hypervisor to manage VMs, one that integrates with your billing panel so clients can buy a VPS and manage it from your billing portal, a lot of them let you preload your own images like you could have a VPS image ready to go that's preinstalled with AMP, make it real easy for your customers to roll out a game server on their own... Enhance is just for hosting traditional web apps, you could integrate it into your billing platform alongside your other items like game servers - but Enhance would be what you used for customers to deploy things like WordPress sites.

1 server: app + db.
1 server: backups

CP, DNS1, DNS2, backup, webserver, test webserver

In trying to follow suite, I seem to have hit a snag with db access "Failed to connect. (SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Connection refused)"

That said, is there anything specific that needs to be done for apps+db server installations in this regard?

That is is a good interrogative question, and so to test this, I turned-off all firewalls(server/hosting etc) and tried again, same outcome - more on this bellow...

Good question, this follows the addition of a server called 'webmail.domain.com', to which I then created a website called mymail.com, then uploaded a php webmail pro script.

Everything appears to have gone as planned(page loads, loggin admin, etc), except the db part - doesn't seem to want to connect.

To further investigate this, I brought-up another VPS server(same roles), and setup Wordpress - which worked as intended - except this time, I created a customer - the initial server/website did not.

Otherwise, I can't make sense of this - it's as though the relative webserver is not connecting to its own database - I tried 127.0.0.1 as well as the eternal IP , no joy

PS, I also tried recreating the domain on another server(within Enhance), and found the same issue - Wordpress works, but no go on this script it seems

Here is what I have tried to date;

Installing script on the panel domain(server) - same outcome
Installing script on two different servers(hosts) - same outcome
Changing db from Maria to MySQL - same outcome
Changing from nginx to Apache - same outcome

Needless to say, I'm stumped

Is the database installed on the same server as the website/script? In enhance, do you see the database listed in the website panel? Do you see the database user name etc?

On the Wordpress install.. did you check wp-config.php and see the correct syntax to connect to the database?

There is nothing special on Enhance with connecting a script to a database.. provided the database is created, a user granted permissions and you use the correct connection string (and you are permitted to reach the database on port 3306) you will have no issues. I suspect you are complicating things or assuming Enhance does something different. As a server admin, you should be able to nut this out I am sure.

I'm fairly certain this installation got hosed at some point - there seems to be strange-goings-ons, across the panel - permission issues - though I'm too tired to dig into it at this time - as its way past my bed time 🫣

That said, I'd like to thank you for your time and patience - it was a fun first time out, will try again(from scratch) later in the week, to see if I can't make a bigger dent - cheers!

xyzulu I couldn’t use cloudflare instead of using dns of enhance. Turns out the domain I wanted to use for the enhance cluster couldn’t use ns1/ns2 unless I paid for an upgrade with cloudflare. I opted for enhance dns instead.

psybox yeah CF doesn't allow glue records. That's easily overcome though, you'd just registrar your domain somewhere else like Namecheap, then you have glue records at Namecheap for your ns1/ns2, and put your DNS on Cloudflare to take advantage of all the CF features.

To update, the database connectivity issue was due to using '127.0.0.1' and/or the 'IP' itself, rather than 'localhost' with the script.

Without affirmation, it would appear that this is due to the nature of dockerization in Enhance, though I'm just guessing at this stage.

NB; localhost, seems to be the default(or only), database connectivity in Enhance Panel in-terms of db connectivity

twest ah yes, that’s the bit I didn’t test as I was getting annoyed at the staging dns also not working! So with the name servers registered else where, you add it as a free account in CF and manually add the ns1/ns2 and IPs, then change the nameservers to CF ones I presume?

I’m curious about your experience with the following:

1) Setting up custom nameservers.
2)Ensuring that all your websites on the “enhance” platform are syncing with Cloudflare.

If you’ve achieved this - I’d love to learn more about how it works.

Typically, Cloudflare requires a $200 business plan for custom nameservers. However, if you’ve managed to set them up using domains registered with Namecheap, I’m wondering which IP addresses your ns1 and ns2 are pointing to.

One concern I have is that if these custom nameservers point directly to your “enhance” main control center, your clients might bypass Cloudflare entirely if their domains are pointed to your nameservers. In that scenario, local DNS would sync directly with Cloudflare, and Cloudflare’s DNS wouldn’t be utilized.

Please correct me if I’m mistaken. I’m also interested in having my own custom nameservers without the hefty price tag for Cloudflare’s custom nameservers.

psybox the glue records are a separate function in a domains settings than the DNS. Each registrar would have the glue records in a different section, some call it other names too. To have custom DNS servers in your enhance cluster, you'd need to have the glue records, AND also need to add a "A" records into the DNS that matches the glue records, AND there needs to be at least one domain using those custom DNS servers... A lot of people get confused about the custom DNS setup where they have to have both glue records and also DNS records, and they're two very different things. It's no problem to have your main domain registered at a place like Namecheap where you can set the glue records, while your main domain DNS is hosted at Cloudflare.

The staging site system doesn't work with Cloudflare, not automatically, you have to do some parts of the setup manually (the DNS). Ultimately I decided to trash the enhance staging system in my setup because even with it functioning I didn't like how it copies the whole website/account/container, as a lot of my customers have many addon domains, so they'd have to deal with all their domains going into staging if they wanted to use staging for any of them... Easier to just setup staging manually on a case by case basis.
