CNAME Flattening - CNAMEs at a Domain Root [LOGGED]

Its possible integrate CNAMEs at a Domain Root for Enhance DNS role?
Cloudflare has such a function

It is useful, for example, when setting the cname quic.cloud cdn, to use cdn with and without www prefix

Example
Currently it is only possible to set the CNAME for the www record, this requires setting up a redirect in wordpress
There is also an option to set the CNAME for quic.cloud without the www prefix but unfortunately Ehance DNS does not support this.
Not every customer wants to use the www prefix.

Is it possible to implement this?

Yes that should work. Obviously there is a risk that if your system is unable to resolve the CNAME then the record might not be correctly served.

What exactly do you mean? Can this be implemented in a safe way?

It's no different to any other CNAME flattening system. Your system needs to read the remote CNAME, cache that data and serve the IP as an A record. If for any reason your system can't resolve the CNAME then it won't have the A record to serve. It's unusual but it's inherently more risky than a hard coded record as 2 DNS lookups are needed.

+1 🙂 Quic.cloud seems to be to best CDN from my experience. Not just with testing but more with the real world experience, it flys between pages, and free credits every month! Would be awesome to have CNAME flattening as apart of Enhance DNS.
