Yes, the v12 backup system is different, nothing about backups is logged in the database, as far as we can tell. That's why logs were removed. It might still be possible to restore logs, hopefully soon.
Most of the other issues you're seeing in the forums seem to be isolated or specific to certain setups rather than confirmed bugs. Typically, Enhance team will focus on fixing confirmed, reproducible issues.
