Finally, it's here! But the UI implementation is a bit off…
Instead the current implementation, the download/upload options should have been located under the Backups tab above the list of backups.
Also, it would be nice if the user could download an existing backup directly from the list, such as having a "Request Download" button and receiving a notification when a tar.gz file is ready for download..
Kinda feature request i guess 🙂

dalet11 The 'Backups' page only shows to end users who have backups allowed on their package. This feature is placed where it is because it isn't linked to backups and needs to be accessible regardless of the backups package settings.

OK but Enhance need to stop making decisions for your customers and forcing things on us.

You've yet again, added a "feature" that we cannot selectively turn off. It appears you're saying you have to turn backups off for the user entirely for this feature not to show.

Some people won't want to allow this new feature but also won't want to stop backups. Was that ever given any thought or consideration?

It doesn't mean it can't be under Backups tab.
If automatic backups are disabled on a package, you can still keep the Backups tab (since downloading the website backup is still... a backup), but don't include the automatic backups/restore section that are currently implemented.
Also, there must be an ability for admins to control if download / upload of backups should be available at the package..

XN-Matt This update has not changed how backups are managed - the two features are not dependant on one another, if you disable or enable backups this feature will still be available.

Aliysa_Enhance We absolutely considered making this feature a platform setting. As users can achieve the same result a number of different ways (for example via the file manager) we did not see this as a priority. As with most things, its very achievable to have this as a platform setting and if we receive feedback thats a deal breaker we can reassess and assign development time to the enhancement.

Aliysa_Enhance This is utterly ridiculous. You keep doing this, making changes that you've not asked community feedback on before forcing it upon us.

So we either don't upgrade, which can be a risk in itself, or upgrade and have something that our customers don't want and cannot disable.

This is not the first time you've done it and it needs to stop. Add features sure, but they should be on an opt-in basis. cPanel used to do this and then took flack for it and then stopped.

Aliysa_Enhance Some companies offer software in the so-called cloud, where it is not possible to download the site data. It would be great if there were an option to disable this restriction in the package.

Aliysa_Enhance Then that is a problem. Though I do plan to offer it to all, there are cases, well stated by others above and below that make it essential that this be a per package setting. I too am very happy to finally see this come to fruition, and testing has gone well, but please hear the community on this one, you need to make provision for it to be enabled/disabled.

DracoBlue Are you looking for an all encompassing package setting that would disable this feature, file and database downloads etc? The best thing to do is, create a feature request post and see what the appetite is 🙂

You all are saying it must not be possible to download the files, but I don't see an option to disable the filemanager for a package, so users can always download the files if they want??

Nickske00 Correct, and this also should be able to be disabled by package, but that can be a different topic.

It's often not the files that are the issue but the data.

The point still stands.

I'm really confused now... Do you mean database data? Client goes to database tab and downloads it there... Once again, not sure what the fuss is about...

Some of the agencies that host, do not want this process as a single data download. Something they specifically requested turned off in cPanel.

Now we cannot turn it off here.

There will always be work arounds... but the main point here is that features keep being added, forced on, no ability to stop, even changes to the platform that are done, without notice, without being in the changelog that then break other things.
