Improve the way Server Locations work on enhance

Let's assume you've got servers in several regions. The way enhance deals with locations atm is at the package level.
You club your servers into Groups. Then when you configure the package you set "Force placement to a specific server group" and you choose that group. So one group would be London, another Amsterdam etc...

Instead I would like the location to be set by the client at the time he creates a website.
He would see a dropdown menu with the available locations. If we have only one location, nothing shows.

This would be really helpful. I have 8 hosting plans and 8 server locations so now I need to create 64 packages.
It's almost impossible to manage.

Adrien Hi Adrien, We've discussed this internally - we'd be looking to allow multiple server groups to be selected on a package level. Then as you say, this would then allow the user to select a 'server group' (in your example based on locations) at the point of adding a website.

Also a search on the package page is pending.

It would be great to hear the communities thoughts on this feature...

From a general hosting point-of-view, I think @Adrien's suggestion is a valid one. Most up-to-date hosting providers like SiteGround allow you to select a location.

I have clients all over the globe but I only have a handful of clients who require the option to 'select' their location (primarily web agencies). For me, I do all of this manually, so this option would save a bit of time.

If this option was added, I would also like to restrict hosting for clients who are not on certain packages (and I believe I can already do that) as certain locations are premium.

This sounds a little like having groups of groups and a subscription/package option to allow customers to be able to choose a group within the group at time of website creation. I think the exact implementation comes down to i) how enhance sees its integration with billing control panels in the future (there are still a lot of unknowns surrounding how a customers adds one more mailbox, or adds more storage to a website, or is billed for overage on bandwidth) because the current model necessitates the "many packages" approach being built into the billing control panel level and ii) if/how enhance expects to support massively parallel operators (is it recommended to have one cluster to rule them all with tens of thousands of customers and hundreds of thousands of website), or multiple clusters (potentially per country) which again feeds back into if things need be done at the billing or cluster level.

necrom Being a small business I would probably set up multiple small clusters one at a time and scale as the demand grows.

Do you mean that you would like Upmind to select the location from the server groups you made available to that plan, when it adds the website on behalf of the customer? If so, that's something Upmind would need to implement. They will be able to pull the available server groups from getPlan and they can then submit the serverGroupId when calling createWebsite.

WHMCS doesn't have awareness of your server locations when provisioning a new account. Generally you would provision the hosting through WHMCS then let the customer choose the location at the point of website creation. As an alternative, some customers choose to run a separate cluster for each location which would then enable you to move the location choice into WHMCS.
