How would you want Enhance to handle the usual options for customisation? ie depending on the container, an external port needs to be configured. Do you want Enhance to setup binding to config files, or just use the actual docker image?

Even now, have you tried something like Portainer? (to me that is more the tool you already have and could be using) Anything more than Portainer (free as well) is going to get very complex for the panel to manage.

I am not sure you and others here know what you are actually asking for.. but your answer could show if I am right or not.

xyzulu in my opinion it makes more sense for lightweigt use cases; and its a convenience thing.

you maybe would not want to setup something in e.g. gcloud as this always will take more effort from you, even if gcloud is providing good options for that.

regarding data privacy and gdpr (if applicable) it could be a plus and also that you don't have to manage multi cloud environments.

on the other hand, for complex use cases you would anyway have to switch to gcloud or similar. and many applications propably are complexer than a single container.

It's certainly a cool idea to explore long term, if it was to be released down the track I'd expect:

Dedicated Server Role for a 'docker host'
User CPU/Memory usage & alerts built into the gui for both the customer and admin
Fine grained control over the resource usage and limits
Management interface for docker, configuration and definable restrictions for both the customer and admin
Whitelisted docker library providers can setup

My fear is that such a utility would change the focus of the panel into a swiss army knife that is a master of none.
Almost makes more sense to spend some time making a light weight 'installatron like' application installer

I'm interested, more will be with the fediverse gaining popularity, I may be wrong but the tutorials all want you installing docker on the server and I'm assuming I can't have it managed by enhance at the same time.

i changed my opinion.

we use "coolify" now for dockerized applications and its doing a great job. it also allows to setup a cluster of servers.

Enhance since v12 no longer uses docker. If you want to host your own docker containers you will need to install docker and mange this yourself. I suggest this feature request gets closed @Aliysa_Enhance since I doubt Enhance are going to devote time to it.. not at least as a priority.

Even we have moved to a self-developed solution for this. It would be nice if something like this could eventually be integrated into Enhance, but there are definitely more pressing features needed.

If this were to be a thing in the Enhance focus at some point, we would only utilize it if this were a "role" similar to how other services are currently handled. It is a nice idea to provide a DEDI package that offered docker, but there would need to be a robust management interface for admin/end-user.

We currently setup docker systems for our clients only as required, and they are locked tightly behind firewalls, with various reverse proxy systems as required by the client's needs to expose their interfaces.

We're still considering this but it's very much a niche feature relevant to a tiny fraction of end users.

What you will be able to do from 12.11.0 is to run any persistent application within the website container and optionally have it proxied from the web server. The feature is designed for node.js but it could be an program written in Go, Rust, Java, etc.

Adam I remember cpanel folks talking about supporting docker like 10yrs ago at cpconf. I think they also realized it wasn't in huge demand because they never really rolled it out.

My hot take is, there are plenty of resources for folks who want to run docker. I would rather Enhance focus on becoming more fleshed out on other features.

I believe that containers will have an increased demand from end users in the upcoming days.
