twest I'm afraid to update until the "LSE to OLS auto convert and make all sites crash" update bug is figured out. Sigh, V12 continues to disappoint. I miss the rock solid reliability pre-V12 :/

They already figured it out. Just run the following on all LSE-powered servers:

apt remove openlitespeed
appcd-cli change-webserver lite-speed

and you’re good to go.

cPFence Awe dang, I checked my servers and 3 of them have openlitespeed installed/running (though not conflicting with ports and not handling any traffic), despite being on ELS. Seems to only affect older servers, not newer ones made within the last 6 or so months, must be some old Enhance bug. I'll run those commands tonight to get them cleared out, thanks for the confirmation 🙂

Running this will maybe solve the issue with litespeed being updated to open litespeed , but once you run it you can't upgrade litespeed itself so you are stuck with litespeed 6.0 when 6.3 is out.

Solution might be to install litespeed manually not using enhance, but I don't dare try that

cPFence well, I have an interesting time of trying the openlitespeed removal.

After removal, then running appcd-cli change-webserver lite-speed, resulted in this: RUST_LOG=warn, all sites down. Checked in control panel and needed to add license there, once that was done ELS seemed to activate itself. It was on an old version 6.0, had to switch to latest 6.3.

Checking if OLS is still installed, and it seems so:
dpkg -l | grep openlitespeed
rc openlitespeed 1.8.2-2+jammy amd64 High Performance, lightweight, open source HTTP server

My newer servers don't show anything when running that. Why is enterprise litespeed getting misread as openlitespeed? It looks correct when I check version in shell too: /usr/local/lsws/bin/lshttpd -v = LiteSpeed/6.3.2 Enterprise

It seems if I try remove ols then it also removes els... So confused about this bug now, not even sure if I'm affected. I'll probably put a ticket in for this on Monday, unless someone has other ideas to try.

Support for legacy PHP is still needed in some regions, and it’s likely this was implemented to help bring in larger paying clients. As long as it’s optional and not exposed to our own users, we’re totally fine with it. If it helps Enhance bring in more revenue, that’s a win for everyone, more funding usually means faster and better updates down the line.

cPFence Totally get it... just a questionable time (in my opinion) to focus resources there all things considered. Naturally a 'side-effect' of a very small team I guess -- pivoting focus before fully tying up loose ends elsewhere.

Just force Litespeed to use the latest version and let them handle the upgrade properly. Here’s how we did it:

apt remove openlitespeed
appcd-cli change-webserver lite-speed

nano /usr/local/lsws/autoupdate/release
Remove the stupid hardcoded `1.8.3` and replace it with `stable`

rm -rf /usr/local/lsws/autoupdate/*
cd /usr/local/lsws/autoupdate/
wget https://www.litespeedtech.com/packages/6.0/lsws-6.3.2-ent-x86_64-linux.tar.gz
ln -s lsws-6.3.2-ent-x86_64-linux.tar.gz lsws-6.3.2--x86_64-linux.tar.gz
/usr/local/lsws/admin/misc/lsup.sh -f -v 6.3.2

Finally, go to your LSE Admin Panel >> Actions >> Version Manager >> Installed Versions >> click Switch to next to version 6.3.2.

Important: Only proceed if you know what you're doing and take a backup first. What worked for us may not work in every environment.

twest 2 servers i upgraded before 12.1 are still on 6.3, the latest servrer added on the cluster has the issue after clean install, and installing just litespeed not open litespeed

Nah, i am honestly tired and Orthodox Easter is coming up 🙂 don't plan to upgrade or update anything for the next 3 weeks, and i hope till then enhance will get an update, but i appreciate the solution

Quite literally impossible to make secure. Only complete idiots run this. Maybe Enhance should focus on useful features.

Ohhhhh I get it. Large company is using php 5 and of course their desires matter more.

I agree, running PHP 5 in 2025 is crazy. But the reality is, in some parts of the world, there are plenty of these idiots still doing it. And they have one thing in common: they don’t care about cPanel or DirectAdmin, they just want something cheap that gets the job done. Also, most large hosting companies in these countries are owned by real system admins who know how to deal with servers on their own. That’s a sizable, easy market, and Enhance is smart to capture it to grow.

And honestly, we all do the same thing. A client who pays more and barely needs support is way easier to deal with than one who’s paying next to nothing but opens four tickets a day asking how to “enable backups” or “change PHP version.”

That said, really hoping the Enhance team shifts gears soon and starts focusing more on fixing bugs and rolling out the features everyone’s been waiting for.

Wouldn't it be nice if development focused on entrepreneurs trying to build alternatives to the major corporate crap already out there, instead of focusing on retards still running ancient software on the current web, who will never change anyways?

PHP 5.0 is literally more than 20 years old. What's next? Adding AOLserver? Releasing Enhance for i386 32 bits?

It’s normal to need to reapply your LSE license after reinstalling the web server. As for the rc status in dpkg -l, that just means the package was removed but its config files are still hanging around, you can safely purge them.

Here’s what we did to get things cleaned up and fully upgraded:

apt remove openlitespeed
sudo dpkg --purge openlitespeed
appcd-cli change-webserver lite-speed  ( this will switch to LSE v6.0.12 )

nano /usr/local/lsws/autoupdate/release
# Remove the stupid hardcoded `1.8.3` and replace it with `stable`

rm -rf /usr/local/lsws/autoupdate/*
cd /usr/local/lsws/autoupdate/
wget https://www.litespeedtech.com/packages/6.0/lsws-6.3.2-ent-x86_64-linux.tar.gz
ln -s lsws-6.3.2-ent-x86_64-linux.tar.gz lsws-6.3.2--x86_64-linux.tar.gz
/usr/local/lsws/admin/misc/lsup.sh -f -v 6.3.2

Then head to your LSE Admin Panel >> Actions >> Version Manager >> Installed Versions >> click on "Switch to" next to version 6.3.2.
We also removed version 6.0.12 and did a quick force reinstall of 6.3.2 from the UI just to be safe.

This worked perfectly for us.

If you want to seriously compete with something like CloudLinux and attract the same hosting companies they serve, you have to support the same PHP versions they do, even the old ones.

If you don’t, those companies will simply move on and find someone else who does.
