Does disk quota also apply to emails?

Hi.

Upgraded to 9.2.0

I see that support for disk quota is enabled using the application role -> settings (in the webserver section).
Does this quota apply also for emails received within the client's account?

No, this is just for the website itself (app role). However you can also set up a package with fixed mailbox sizes and those quotas are also hard limits.

It also says that you can override those on a website basis.
I assume its located on the website list -> Overrides, but I'm getting this error when opening that page.

Adam Adam are you planning a feature update to count as a sum all the disk space a user using?

@Adam how do we know when a website hits the threshold. How does the client know ?

Is there a way clients gets notified at like 90% so they don’t get into issues. This will eventually lead to support tickets and clients complaining.

Otherwise clients will have 2 different quotas.

@mike, @george, @mendozal I think the disk space should be calculated for the account/website and not for only the web application. If such thing happens, then clients will have enormous size email boxes and we won't be able to know/bill them.
@Adam, I am not happy learning this.

I do not know, but I think some things are not well thought off in Enhance.

The phpmyadmin and webmail domains are a single gateway to all the servers, causing a lot of slowness for even opening emails, or using databases, when the Control Panel and server are located far away.
The hard disk quota feature, has been implemented wrongly. Emails should be included in the users account quota and shouldn't be different quota.

@prasad0889 the quota should be calculated per subscription. if you subscribe mike to package 20G, whatever mike does in his subscription he cannot go over 20G. that will include emails websites databases etc...

This is a fundamental issue.

I think that the subscription should make sure that the client has the data limit, i.e. clients emails, databases, application, etc. As mike has mentioned, the subscription should cover the entire quota, and not different quotas for different roles.

As providers, it will be impossible for us to keep an eye on everything.

For those who are hosting email on a separate server, they can limit the mailboxes to a limited size.

One of the fundamental principles of Enhance is that email can be on a separate server to the website, database, backups, etc. Email usage contributes to the soft disk limit for the subscription but it's very hard to enforce the hard limit if the email is on a separate server as this would require synchronisation of the disk quota across a network.

The other issue with making email subject to filesystem quotas is that incoming emails will either site in the queue or be bounced to the recipient and this is problematic in itself - I'm aware this is how other control panels do it.

We can potentially add a setting to make email files subject to the hard quota limit if the email is on the same server as the website. That would give you the flexibility to choose how you want the system to behave. I will log this as a feature request.

Adam Does the disk hard limits include MySQL databases? Or is it only the website's home directory?

Also, just to clarify, the size we see in the /wesites page in the last column. What services sizes does it cover? Is that Websites + MySQL + Emails?

In any case, where can we see clearly all the usage values? Would be nice to have a centralized place to have this info.

I never asked before, but I guess we need an explanation of what happens when:

Client on 10Gb storage plan
1 The client is using web hosting as file storage, going over 10Gb. What is the panel doing at this point? if no hard limit is set. Allows the client to fill up the server over the 10Gb? (if so, that is super bad)

2 The client is using email accounts hosted on a different server (dedicated role), and email storage is over 10Gb what is the outcome? Will Enhance or stop a particular service? What is the push for the client to upgrade?

If the client can continue and use 100**Gb storage on the plan of 10Gb paid is a killer move, I want to buy that🙂

I am interested in the outcome of the above scenarios as we lease servers with finite Storage, and we can not give it for free due to the software's inability to count it 🙂

If someone knows these answers (time saved) I do appreciate it. Otherwise I have to test them myself:

It would be nice to have a centralized place to see all user/package/subscription usage, including website+email+database, etc. Even if they are soft limits. Or even having a notification.

That way, we can take quick action when a user exceeds their limits. Would you consider this a request?

This is a Must Have, a page where we can get accurate filters on accounts over limits / also, in time, some limitations should be applied,
For if an account is over quota regardless of email / file/ db
The client should not be able to upload any more files on that website.
Email notifications to the client,
Maybe in time, email functionality stopped (google does that and any other proper paid provider) (you over your upgrade, or it stops)

If the above is not implemented, I have asked myself why do I sell 1Gb, 10 Gb 100Gb packages when a 1Gb package can do the same thing as the 100Gb account without repercussions!

I just managed to upload 6 Gb on a 3 Gb account and actually keep it there (as a test.)
I will fill up an email account and leave it there for a while to see what reporting we have for now. (as a test)

I admit, I am not in the business of offering free stuff 🙂
